  1. Cancer Patients and Reiki

Relaxing Supportive Reiki for those in need of a little extra TLC

I have noticed within my Reiki practice an increasing number of clients are finding it beneficial to come to the clinic for Reiki sessions either as a survivor of cancer or because they are experiencing adverse side effects having received invasive cancer treatment such as chemotherapy.

Reiki can be given to cancer patients. Although, Reiki is not a cure, Reiki may help with emotional well-being and also be helpful in calming the mind and strengthening the energetic system supporting the body's natural immunity. Reiki may help with relaxation, sleep and clarity of thought.

Reiki is a complementary therapy and can be used alongside existing medication/treatment and I always recommend seeking guidance from your Doctor if you are undergoing treatment before having any complementary therapies.

  2. Pre Reiki Session Tips

So, you have booked yourself in for a relaxing Reiki session. That's fabulous! But now what?

Well, whether it's your first Reiki session or a session you have on a regular basis it is always good to prepare beforehand.

As a professional Reiki Practitioner I have put together some useful tips which I recommend to help you to prepare for and to get the best from your Reiki session:

Drink plenty of water - I would say that this is the most important thing to do both before as well as after a Reiki session. Energy treatments can make you feel very thirsty. Water will help to cleanse and flush through the body any toxins. Also, it is worth noting that water has long been known to be a good conductor of electricity/energy, so it makes sense to replenish with water.

Eat light and healthy food - Avoid eating a heavy meal prior to your session as you don’t want all your body’s energy to be directed toward digesting whilst having your session. I also recommend if you eat something light then opt for something healthy (avoid sugary foods).

Avoid alcohol – I believe that it is important not to drink any alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your Reiki session as alcohol retains toxins which may cause adverse effects including tiredness, dehydration and potentially trigger negative emotions.

Bathe & cleanse - Cleanliness is important when working with energy. I recommend ideally having a nice relaxing bath or shower prior to (or the morning before) your Reiki session to help you to relax as well as to cleanse your body. You may wish to add natural sea salt, Epsom salt or Himalayan salt to your bath as this will also help to cleanse your auric field.

Wear comfortable clothing - Ideally, for your Reiki session wear loose layers so you can be comfortable whilst receiving Reiki. You will usually be asked to remove your shoes if having a full body Reiki session. I always recommend that my clients bring warm socks with them to keep your feet nice and warm whilst laying on the therapy couch.

Relax and focus on your breathing during your Reiki session. Have an open mind, and allow in some loving healing energy, releasing any and all expectations, and just enjoy the beautiful experience.

  3. Untitled design (74)

A few years back, a close relative of mine become very ill who needed, 24/7 care and I have to say it was a very difficult period for me and my family. We loved this person so much, we felt responsible for them, and only wanted the very best for them and had to accept the awful truth that we were not able to give them the care that they really needed. I certainly felt so out of depth, and it had become increasingly challenging, it was time to reach out for help and support from others qualified and experienced to help with that care.

I felt so very grateful for that support that we received from the Carers that were there for my loved one. Grateful for their kindness, patience and understanding, especially when times got rough.  As well as their compassion and sensitivity when my loved one sadly passed away. It was indeed a very emotional time.

Having witnessed first-hand how mentally and physically draining being a Carer can be (not to mention emotional).  There is no doubt about it, whether you are a full-time Carer or a part-time Carer it is a challenging and demanding role which involving tasks that very few people would envy. In my mind it takes a special type of person to choose to be a Carer by profession and I have total respect for you!

As my way of saying thank you, to Carers for their services to the community, I am offering full Reiki Sessions at low concessional rates at our therapy room in South Croydon.

If you are a carer or know someone that is a Carer that may be interested in a Reiki session, then please click the link below to find out more about concessional rates.
